First Week 2007 Fantasy MLB UpdateAlex Rodriguez, Miguel Cabrera, and Vlad Guerrero Were Fantasy StudsA lot of big dollar fantasy MLB players, and a few cheaper sleepers, delivered during the first ten days of the 2007 baseball season.
Top Fantasy MLB Hitters1. Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees (.357 BA, 6 HR, 15 RBI, 10 Runs) Yankees fans love A-Rod. For now at least. Alex Rodriguez has exploded in the first week of the 2007 fantasy baseball season. He's batting .357 with six homers including a walk off Grand Slam against the Orioles. Rodriguez also drove in fifteen runs, tops in the majors and scored ten runs. 2. Vladimir Guerrero, Los Angeles Angels (.440 BA, 3 HR, 10 RBI) Vlad lit it up this week. He seems to light it up almost every week. A great draft or auction pick, it's not really going out on a limb to say he’s a fantasy keeper. That's why he made the All-Fantasy Second team. 3. Miguel Cabrera, Florida Marlins (.429 BA, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 8 Runs, .528 OBP) Miguael Cabrera, who ranks among the best third basemen on the MLB Fantasy Depth Chart, is only 23 years old and he has already had three 100 RBI-100 Runs seasons. If he keeps this up, Cabrera could be looking at his first National League MVP award. 4. Adam Dunn, Cincinnati Reds (.333 BA, 4 HR, 7 RBI, 7 Runs) Dunn, who is shooting for his fourth straight 40 home run season, started off the right way. He popped two homers on Opening Day and hit .333 for the week. For those of you who bought or drafted Adam Dunn for the homers, you should be very excited. This big man has a great shot at 50 dingers this year. 5. Mike Jacobs, Florida Marlins (.435, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 8 runs, .500 OBP) Jacobs was the fantasy sleeper of the week. Jacobs had a nice season in 2006 with 20 HR and 77 RBI. But in the first week of the 2007 fantasy baseball season, he hit more like Mike Schmidt than Mike Jacobs. If Jacobs is really developing into a top player, the Marlins are going to be a pretty respectable squad this season. Top Fantasy MLB Pitchers1. John Lackey, Los Angeles Angels (2-0, 0.75 ERA, 11 Ks, 1.25 WHIP) Lackey led the Angels to the top of the 2007 MLB Power Rankings during the first week of the 2007 MLB season. He also put up the best fantasy baseball stats among Major League Pitchers. 2. Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners (1-0, 0.00, 12 Ks, 0.63 WHIP) Hernandez pitched brilliantly in his 2007 season debut. At only 21 years old, his future’s so bright, he’s gotta wear shades. Mariners fans and fantasy owners will be keeping a close on this guy all season long. 3. Johann Santana, Minnesota Twins (2-0, 2.77, 15 Ks, 1.00 WHIP) Santana had a very mediocre debut on Opening Day, but pitched up to his level on Sunday, April 8 when he threw 7 shutout innings, gave up only one hit and struck out nine batters. That's why he is the best fantasy pitcher alive. 4. Tim Hudson, Atlanta Braves (1-0, 0.64 ERA, 12 Ks, WHIP 0.71) After he went 13-12 with a 4.86 ERA in 2006, many were beginning to question if Hudson had slipped from the great form he showed in Oakland from 1999-2004. In two starts this year, he has shown that he is still going strong, throwing a two-hiter against the Phillies on Opening Day and a three-hitter against Washington on April 10. 5. Nate Robinson, Detroit Tigers (2-0, 9 Ks, 1.38 ERA) On a team with a number of potential aces, Robinson has been the best so far this season. He's got a 1.08 WHIP and a .239 btting average against. So, it's not like he's been geeting lucky. He is just pitching great. Also, check out this week's MLB Power Rankings.
