Players 51-100 on the 2009 Fantasy Draft Rankings include some aging stars and some young up-and-comers.

There are so many good fantasy baseball players. So many. Sure, everybody wants to land a Pujols, a Wright or a Reyes for their team. But their are only a handful of the "cream of the crop" among fanasty players. But one shouldn't despair. Even after the very best players come off the draft board, there are still a plethora of very good second-tier hitters and pitchers to choose from. A smart sampling of some of these players can be the difference between winning your league and spending the next six months as the butt of every one of your friends' stupid fantasy baseball jokes.

This article examines the performance of the fifty "next best" fantasy baseball players. Located next to each player is a summary of his important statistics from the 2008 season. Of course, prior performance is no guarantee of future success, but it is one factor worth looking into before you sit down for your fantasy baseball draft later this month.

Future articles in this series will examine the three-year and five-year trends of some of the players listed below. That should further help a fantasy novice identify which players are on the rise, which players are in their primes, and which veterans may have begun the inevitable slide in production that comes with age. For now, however, here are fantasy baseball players 51-100.
