Global Warming and Our Government

Congress Must Get Involved To Reverse Climate Change

To stop Global Warming, pressure must put on the policymakers who have the power to make the large scale changes necessary to protect our environment from further damage.

You can turn off the lights. You can buy a hybrid car. You can even heat your home with solar energy. But it's not enough. The best and most realistic way to combat Global Warming, and lessen the country's dependence on fossil fuels, is to influence the government to make smart choices and smart changes concerning Global Warming.

Vote For the Best Environmental Presidential Candidate

In the months leading up to the 2008 Presidental Election, pay attention to what the Presidential candidates are saying about the environment during the upcoming election. Find out which candidates have received the most in oil company campaign donations. Make sure that the candidate doesn’t come from a family that makes hundreds of million of dollars a year in the oil business. That’s probably the best idea, right there. How can a nation expect to decrease its reliance on fossil fuels when its leader is up to his neck in oil?

Write to Your Congressional Representative About Global Warming

Keep an eye on your Congressional representative and your Senator. If they are not introducing and/or supporting environmentally-friendly policies, then send a letter. Or send five. Tell your representative that the environment is of paramount concern to you as a voter, and that you expect your voice to be heard. If everyone who favored environmental conservation sent letters to their representatives, the entire federal government would start to change. These folks in Congress don’t want to get voted out. Contact information for members of Congress can be found here.

Donate Time and/or Money To Environmentally Friendly Political Candidates

If you have the means, support your favorite green candidate with a donation of your time and/or your money. To determine the position of each presdiential candidates on Global Warming and Climate Change, click on the Candidates' name.

Hillary Clinton

John Edwards

John McCain

Barack Obama

Mitt Romney

All Other Presidential candidates and links to their websites can be found here.

Of course, no candidate is going to say that he or she will ignore Global Warming. However, if you take a good look at the depth and breadth of each competitor's plan to combat Climate Change, it's not too hard to find out which candidates are serious about the issue and which are just blowing smoke to get the votes. It takes a little bit of work, but isn't it worth it?

Try to Educate and Influence Others on Global Warming

No matter how much you may care, or how hard you work, you are still only one person. Do your best to educate and influence your friends and family members about the dangers of Global Warming, and also inform them about those political candidates who will be most likely to do take active measure to combat Global Warming if elected to office. It's our world and we need to protect it.
