One month into the 2007 MLB season, things are starting to fall into place for all pre-season favorites except the New York Yankees.
Here are the current in-season MLB Power Rankings for the 2007 baseball season. Right now, the Top 10 MLB Teams are: 1. Boston Red Sox (16-8, First Place AL East). By taking 5 of the first 6 games from the hated rival New York Yankees, the Sox may have sealed the fate of Bombers' manager Joe Torre. Could he really be gone after 11 straight playoff appearances and four World Series rings? Anyway, the Red Sox have gotten the best pitching in the American League, some pretty good hitting, and spectacular defense. 2. The New York Mets (15-8, First Place NL East). As April nears an end, the Mets are really coming into their own. The team is rich with hitting and pitching, and has completely blown away their cross-town rivals over the first 30 days of the season. 3. Los Angeles Dodgers (15-10, First Place AL West). Good pitching plus good hitting equals wins, wins, wins. Brad Penny has been the stud for this rotation, going 3-0 with a 1.95 ERA. Nomar, Jeff Kent and Russell Martin have all hit well. 4. Atlanta Braves (15-9, Second Place NL East). Continue to surprise with good hitting from Chipper Jones (7 HR and 16 RBI) and Edgar Renteria (.304, 4 HR, 17 RBI). Locking up veteran John Smoltz for one more year (and possibly two more) was a key move. 5. Cleveland Indians (14-8, First Place AL Central). On a roll, even though Jake Westbrook has struggled on the mound so far. Good pitching from C.C. Sabathia and Paul Byrd, and great hitting from Travis Hafner have led the way to eight wins in the last ten games. 6. Milwaukee Brewers (15-9, First Place NL Central). Who knew the Brewers would be so damn tough? 7. Arizona Diamondbacks (15-11, Second Place NL West). Solid pitching from Brandon Webb, Livan Hernandez and Doug Davis has led the way. 8. Los Angeles Angels (14-11, First Place AL West). Vladimir Guerrero. It's all about that guy: he's batting .359 with 7 home runs and 21 RBI. 9. Philadelphia Phillies (11-13, Fourth Place NL East). Although the Phillies started off 3-8, they won seven of their last ten games behind the continued hot hitting of Jimmy Rollins (.294, 9 HR and 18 RBI) and Chase Utley (.324, 5 HR, 18 RBI), and strong pitching from youngster Cole Hamels and veteran Jamie Moyer. 10. Minnesota Twins (14-11, 2nd Place AL Central). If Ramon Ortiz and Carlos Silva can keep this up, the Twins will win the Central by ten games. _____________________ Keep your eyes peeled for MLB Power Rankings every single week of the 2007 MLB Season
