And the Rocket's Red Glare

Will Clemens Keep Yankees on Righteous Path?

With the season more than one-third over and All-Star Game rapidy approaching, the Baseball Blogger gives out his All-Star selections and sound off on Clemens, too.

I probably shouldn't vote for this just yet, because things could change so much in the next 20 games, but here is my stab at the AL and NL starting All-Stars.

Jimmy Ray's American League All-Star Starters

C - Victor Martinez, Cleveland Indians

1B - Justin Morneau, Minnesota Twins

2B - Placido Polanco, Detroit Tigers

SS - Derek Jeter, New York Yankees

3B - Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees

OF - Vladimir Guerrero, Los Angeles Angels

OF - Torii Hunter, Minnesota Twins

OF - Magglio Ordonez, Detroit Tigers

SP - Josh Beckett, Boston Pilgrims

Jimmy Ray's National League All Star Starters

C- Russell Martin, Los Angeles Dodgers

1B - Prince Fielder, Milwaukee Brewers

2B - Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies

SS- J.J. Hardy, Milwaukee Brewers

3B - Miguel Cabrera, Florida Marlins

OF - Carlos Lee, Houston Astros

OF - Aaron Rowand, Philadelphia Phillies

OF - Ken Griffey, Jr., Cincinnati Reds

SP - Jake Peavy, San Diego Padres

Okay, so that's that. Those are the real all-stars, at least as of June 11 at 7:00 p.m.

The Rocket Returns to New York

To some, it was as if he never left. To others, it had been much to long. To Red Sox fans, Yaaawwwnnn!!! Yeah, they wish. What is wrong with Sox fans, by the way? Do they define everything in their lives in relation to the New York Yankees? It's strange.

Anyhow, Clemens came back to the Bronx yesterday, a full 11 years after the Red Sox called him a player in his twilight. I love that. Never have so few been so wrong about something so important. Well, Clemens pitched adequately for the Yankees, logging a quality start by tossing six innings and giving up just three earned runs.

Whether or not Clemens can help the Yankees catch the Boston juggernaut still remains to be seen, however. That is a pretty good team up there in Boston.

The Yankees Should Cut Giambi

I know that they can't. But as a former lawyer, I know that contracts are made for one reason, and one reason only: to be broken. Giambi has caused the Yankees several million dollars in missed time and circus-like distractions all because of his steroid use. Even though the Yankees probably looked the other way at Giambi's steroid use before, during and after he signed the $119 million contract, it would be nice to see somebody go after one of these players for the losses their juicing caused.
