It's hard to believe that just six weeks ago, the Colorado Rockies weren't even considered a legitimate contender to reach the playoffs. But after winning 14 of their final 15 regular season games, including a dramatic 13 inning win over the San Diego padres in a one-game playoff for the National League wild card, they made it to the postseason.
But few thought the team could stay so hot, and most baseball fans and writers figured they would collapse against the Philadelphia Phillies in the National league Division Series. That didn;t happen. The Rockies swept the Phillies, rather easily I might add, and moved on to face the D-Backs for the right to play in the World Series.
I, for one, was pretty sure that the Rockies would have to cool off against Arizona's Brandon Webb in Game One of the series. Again, didn't happen. The Rocks beat up the defending Cy Young Award winner in the opener, went on to win Games 2 and 3, and now sit on the brink of their first Fall Classic appearance.
The team has now won 20 of its last 21 games, and they have done it against some of the best teams in baseball. So now, after all this time, I am finally a believer. Yup, I am a bandwagon jumper. This team is incredible, and I want them to win the World Series. Go Holliday! Go Hawpe! Go Helton! Go Rockies!
Now, of course, they will probably collapse, a la the 2004 Yankees.
Probably not.
